It was a beautiful day, and the Sierra foothills are glorious. We have fantastic roads right in our backyard here. It was 72 degrees when I left at about 9:30 am, and 86 when I got home around 1:30.
Normally, I don’t take 168 back, because a lot of it is freeway. Usually I cut over to Tollhouse from Auberry and come down Trimmer Springs Road or Piedra road, then back on the 180. But I need to pack for the drive to Texas.
I stopped in North Fork, a quaint little town, for a quick lunch of a cold leftover chicken breast and an apple I brought in my backpack. I chatted with a homeless guy who was enjoying a 40 at my lunch spot, and he told me about his days as a logger, and how he would ride a dirt bike up and down logging roads to get to the work site. He told me that these days, he wouldn’t “make it across the street” on a bike because he is never sober. “I’m not an alcoholic,” he said, “I’m a drunk.” Fair enough. As the sign says, North Fork is the exact center of the state.
There is a little freshwater cove on this ride where I often stop to rest in the shade and look at the water. Normally a peaceful spot, it was not peaceful today. People were everywhere. Picnicking, boating, fishing, and riding personal watercraft. So I didn’t even stop. So much for shelter at home. It is warmer than usual this weekend, and people are hitting lakes and rivers. I may get in the pool, where I can cool and rub fewer elbows.
My son and I will drive to Flagstaff tomorrow, then get to Denton Tuesday night. We have 3 days in Denton, and then a Uhaul full of his motorcycle and junk to drive home. They won’t let the cargo van leave the local area, so it will be a small truck that we won’t fill. No other choice.

At least it wasn't 110 this time haha. I'm pretty sure I found hotter weather in Ojai today than you had up there. Although at least within a 20 minute drive I was in coastal Oxnard and it dropped 10+ immediately.

Lucky, I’m dealing with temps in mid-low 50s and now the spring rain is finally making it’s appearance wiping out most of this
week.
Covid had everyone at home last month and it was great local
riding
as
we have
n’t had
much of an outbreak.
I noticed the past week traffic has
been on the rise again
to almost normal levels
and the cops were absolutely nailing the boneheads speeding on the prominent
twisties yesterday
